2018 Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity Goes to LEON: PROTECTOR OF THE PLAYGROUND

Presented at Long Beach Comic Expo, Leon: Protector of the Playground was named the 2018 Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity recipient. This all-ages graphic novel is written and drawn by Jamar Nicholas and is set in a world where superheroes are common, and kids have to deal with the every day life of school, grades, and supervillains.

Named after Dwayne Glenn McDuffie, the creator of StaticThe Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity in Comics Selection Committee consists of prominent comics and animation professionals who have demonstrated a commitment to McDuffie’s vision of inclusiveness. The award itself aims to "broadening the range of characters portrayed in comics, adding to the variety of creators contributing to the medium, influence on the marketplace and contributions to the advancement of women, minorities and LGBTs people in comic books and pop culture.”
