Latest BookShelf e-Newsletter Offers Invaluable Resources to Educators, Librarians, and Retailers

The January update of the Diamond BookShelf website is now available, featuring recent comic industry news of relevance to retailers, educators and librarians, special educational articles, upcoming events for schools and libraries, and much more.

The BookShelf website is one of Diamond's innovative efforts to foster the growth and acceptance of comics and graphic novels, providing a wealth of resource information and encouraging librarians and teachers to visit their local comic shops. Additionally, it is an excellent tool for retailers currently in partnership with local schools and libraries, or for those who wish to explore such opportunities.

The website's content for this month includes:

  • Comics in Education Interview Series
  • Powerful Teaching: an interview with high school teacher, Maureen Bakis
  • Tips for librarians on acquiring donations for graphic novel collections
  • Image Comics Launches Library Resource Newsletter
  • Dr. Katie Monnin reviews One Week in the Library and Light, providing lesson plan suggestions for classroom and workshop settings
  • Gene Yang TEDtalk on why graphic novels belong in the classroom
  • Much more!

To help make the search for comic shops easier and more convenient, BookShelf partners with the Comic Shop Locator Service web site to create a School and Library Partners badge. Comic stores with this badge have told us they are willing to work with libraries and schools. This could mean help with stocking comics and graphic novels, putting together programming, offering educational presentations, buying at a discount and more. Librarians and educators looking for a store to partner with can search their local area by simply typing in their address or zip code. For stores who'd like more information or to participate, please consult your Diamond Retailer Services Representative.

To learn what's new for comics in the growing education and library markets - and how you can work with your local librarians and educators - retailers and managers can sign up for our monthly newsletter here.
