Marvel re-presents the beginning of Bendis and Oeming's epic crime noir superhero police drama in a deluxe hardcover with lots of supplemental material.
Powers depicts the complicated work of police detectives in a world where superheroes are real. Volume 1: Who Killed Retro Girl? unravels the mysterious murder of a beloved superheroine while introducing the series' main characters: sassy detective Deena Pilgrim and former superhero Christian Walker on their first assignment together.
The artwork is sleek, angular and stylish, depicting a city of seemingly perpetual nightfall where superheroes don't look out of place beside regular people. The addition of the complete script, character designs, and cover designs show the development of the comic and will appeal to both aspiring graphic novelists and those who enjoy learning about what goes on behind the scenes.
With lots of violence and even the children swearing like sailors, this is definitely a book for adults and older teens. With a TV adaptation in development, interest in this series is sure to increase and Who Killed Retro Girl? is an excellent story for new readers to begin with and long-time readers to revisit.
